Couponing may seem overwhelming to some at first, but remember it takes time to develop a feel for it. Extreme Couponing doesn’t happen overnight. It’s strategic and takes a lot of work, at first, but the payoff can be HUGE!
One of the best shopping tips I can offer coupon virgins is to START SLOW!!
1. First off, choose ONE category of grocery items you want to start with.
Let’s say it’s cleaning products. Begin by making a list of your favorite, frequently purchased cleaning products.
Go room by room; think kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, baby, garage, pet
Your list might looks something like this:
Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaner
Clorox Wipes
Comet Cleanser
Ecos Laundry Detergent
Windex
Finish Powerball Tabs
Dish Sponges and Scrubbies
2. Then, start searching for coupons in your local paper and online.
Search for every cleaning product coupon you can find, and clip or print them out.
Don’t forget to check the product’s official website (ie. windex.com) where many coupons can be found!
3. Trade coupons!
Trade coupons with friends, family or co-workers. This is a great way to double up on your favorite product coupons
4. Search your newspaper and online ads to compare prices
For instance, Walgreens might have a 2-for-1 deal happening. Also, buy non-perishables in BULK if they are on sale
Look for special sales or double coupon days
Double check sizes, you might be able to buy 3 SMALL containers (2 oz each) for LESS than 1 BIG container (6 oz)
5. Try different brands
If you have a good coupon/deal, it doesn’t hurt to try other brands from time to time, you might just like it!
6. Keep track of your coupon savings!!
It’s easier than you thought, right? It just takes a little time and planning but you can do it and the rewards are great!
